Szijjarto said EU wanted to establish another government in Georgia
The EU leadership is disappointed with the results of the parliamentary election in Georgia, as it wanted to establish another government in this country – as noted by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto, who accompanied PM Viktor Orban on a trip to Tbilisi, TASS reports
“Obviously, there was a huge disappointment in Brussels and in European liberal circles, because they expected that if they appointed a government here, if they appointed political figures, the Georgian people would be happy to elect them. But this did not happen,” the Hungarian Foreign Minister said.
He called it shameful that now these political forces, who tried to impose their will on Georgia, do not want to recognise the results of the vote, denying the Georgian people’s right to make decisions about their own future. “Everyone in Brussels should get used to the fact that the governments of certain countries are appointed not from Brussels, not from the European Union,” Mr. Szijjarto stressed.
The Hungarian politician accused Western politicians of hypocrisy, double standards and bias in assessing the results of the parliamentary election won by the ruling Georgian Dream party on October 26th. “International organisations and foreign ministers from the countries of Northern and Western Europe are lining up to see who will declare the collapse of democracy more harshly. On the other hand, mainstream liberals believe that a country is democratic only if a liberal party wins the election. We have seen this in many European countries, and we see the same thing with regard to Georgia,” he noted.
