Lukashenko: lack of checks and balances in the world led to degradation of security across all spheres
The lack of a system of checks and balances in the world has led to the degradation of security across all areas – as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko at the 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security
In his speech, the Head of State outlined his vision of the problems when it comes to global security. First of all, he began by defining the concept, noting that, as a rule, when talking about security, guarantees of protection from encroachments on one’s territory are meant.
“However, comprehensive security, by definition, should provide guarantees to states not only in the military sphere, but also in the political, economic, information and other fields,” the President emphasised.
According to the Belarusian leader, looking at it from this angle, the scale of the crisis that has engulfed the planet becomes obvious.
“Having assumed the title of the ‘leader of the free world’ after the collapse of the USSR and the entire socialist camp, the United States proved unable to be a single global pillar and guarantor of security in the broadest sense of the word. Believe me, I have no desire to go back to the Cold War labels. But this is an obvious fact! It should not be hidden.”
The Head of State underlined that international institutions, designed to be universal mediators or arbitrators, often demonstrate complete paralysis, limiting themselves to empty statements and representative functions.
“The absence of a system of checks and balances has led to the degradation of security across all areas,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.
