Statistical Committee: Belarus is among top ten forest states in Europe

Belarus is one of the top ten forest states in Europe, sb.by reports with reference to the National Statistical Committee’s review

According to the source, the Republic of Belarus is among the top ten forest states in Europe, 40.2 percent of its territory is covered with forests. In 2023, this figure made 8,351.9 thousand hectares, of which reserves, national parks, sanctuaries and natural monuments accounted for 1,350.2 thousand hectares.

As of early 2024, the Gomel Region was the most forested territory in Belarus (46.9 percent). It was followed by the Vitebsk Region (41.9 percent), the Mogilev Region (39.3 percent), the Minsk Region (38.3 percent), and the Brest Region (36.6 percent). The Grodno Region was in the last place (36 percent).

The total number of people employed in forestry and logging in Belarus in 2023 amounted to 41.7 thousand people.
