State Border Committee: corpse of a refugee found on border with Latvia

Polotsk border guards found the corpse of an Asian-looking man, presumably a Sri Lankan citizen on the border with Latvia in the Verkhnedvinsk District, Belarus’ State Border Committee reports in its Telegram channel

On the evening of October 9th, a body without signs of life was found near a gate in the fence installed on the Latvian territory. Money, a driver's license and personal belongings of the deceased were found at the scene.

A special investigation task group came to establish all the circumstances of the incident.

"The ongoing facts of beatings and deaths on the border of the European Union prove the inhumane attitude of Western countries towards refugees seeking protection," the State Border Committee noted, recalling that, since the beginning of the year, this has been the seventh death of a refugee on the border with Latvia recorded by Belarusian border guards.
