Sergeyenko: promotion of peaceful agenda is Belarus’ primary task of interparliamentary diplomacy

The Republic of Belarus considers the promotion of a peaceful and constructive agenda as the primary task of interparliamentary diplomacy – as stated by the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Igor Sergeyenko, at the first plenary session of the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN IPA

Mr. Sergeyenko stressed that the theme of the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN IPA is very close to Belarus, “Our country stands for integration and rapprochement, and not for creation of artificial barriers on the path of formation of a safe and prosperous world.”

“We call on parliamentarians at all levels of international dialogue to promote unifying initiatives aimed at strengthening trust between countries. Among them is the initiative of the President of Belarus on the development of the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century to form a new system of collective security in the spirit of San Francisco,” the representative of Belarus said at the session. “This is a collective agreement that sets out the principles of building a just world order, when each state will have not only the right, but also practical opportunities for sustainable sovereign development and equal co-operation.”

Mr. Sergeyenko stressed that the role of parliamentarians in maintaining political dialogue, strengthening interconnection and ensuring inclusive growth based on progressive economic development and the eradication of social imbalances is immeasurably increasing.

According to the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Belarus supports the efforts of the ASEAN IPA to find ways to strengthen regional and international security, economic progress and integration. “We see it expedient to hold joint events on topical topics of mutual interest, such as food security or artificial intelligence,” he stated. “Unfortunately, we note that the growing tension and confrontation, external pressure and attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign countries violate the socio-economic rights of peoples and create serious barriers to achieving Sustainable Development Goals.”
