10+ countries to take part in International Library Congress in Minsk
The 11th International Congress dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders – Library as Cultural Phenomenon – will be held on October 24th-25th at the National Library in Minsk
The forum will gather delegates from Belarus, as well as countries of the near and far abroad: Armenia, Azerbaijan, India, Russia, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Mali, Kyrgyzstan, Guinea, Togo, France, Republika Srpska, and Uzbekistan. They will represent the largest libraries, museums, publishing houses, research organisations and educational institutions, manufacturers of software, hardware, information products and industrial equipment for libraries.
As reported by the library’s PR department, the participants will discuss various topics – focusing, in particular, on such themes as: the Great Patriotic War in documents and book collections of libraries; the librarian activities during the Great Patriotic War; international co-operation in the field of culture, science and education; bibliographic support for the study of the Great Patriotic War; the use of modern technologies to improve library information resources and services; regulatory legal support for the library industry, and others.
A co-operation agreement between the National Library of Belarus and the Amur Regional Scientific Library named after N.N. Muravyov-Amursky is planned for signing. There will also be a presentation of the Unified Acquisition Profile of the National Library of Belarus. The Library of the Polotsk Council of 1839 exhibition – dedicated to the 185th anniversary of the Polotsk Council that reunited Belarusian and Lithuanian Uniates with the Orthodox Church – will open for public, and a master class on prompt repair of paperback books is planned as well.
An exhibition of publishing products, electronic information resources and services will be held during the two-day event.
