News photo: Unity Marathon participants lay flowers to war memorials

At the Unity Marathon national socio-cultural campaign held in Gomel, the Deputy Head of Belarus President Administration Vladimir Pertsov, the Information Minister Marat Markov, the Culture Minister Anatoly Markevich, the First Secretary of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union’s Central Committee Aleksandr Lukyanov, the President’s Aide – Inspector for the Gomel Region Yuri Gorlov, along with city and regional officials, expressed their deepest respect to the heroic war effort of Belarusians. They laid wreaths and bouquets at the monument to the victims of genocide of the Belarusian people and to the memorial celebrating the liberation army that freed Gomel from the occupation – the legendary T-34 tank. The Vosstaniya (Uprising) Square has recently undergone a major reconstruction. The well-known military hardware got a new appearance, while the Tree of Life, the monument that commemorates the genocide victims, has become one of the city’s iconic locations.
