Mukovozchik comments on Ukrainian missile fall: Belarus’ reaction is not simply balanced but very wise

On December 29th, a Ukrainian missile of the C-300 complex fell on the territory of Belarus, and an observer of the Belarus Segodnya Publishing House, Andrei Mukovozchik, commented on the incident in his talk with Alfa Radio

The programme host, Polina Konoga, stressed that the wreckage had been found out to belong to a S-300 anti-aircraft missile. The Ukrainian side has already voiced its readiness to conduct an investigation.

“Belarusian troops are always guarding our borders, this refers to the question of whether we need to conduct constant exercises, mobilisation training, and so on. Of course, we need, since there is a war on our doorstep, and there is real shooting there. Thank God there were no casualties [as a result of the missile crash]. When a missile is falling, no one knows whether it will hit a moving tractor or fall into a field without people. Actually, we will not wait for victims. It is important to understand that we now live in a hostile environment," Mr. Mukovozchik shared his opinion.

The observer voiced two versions of the incident, “The Banderites were probably simply bragging to each other that they now have a S-300, and accidentally pressed the wrong button. However, there is another version: Iskanders and S-400 complexes have been recently put on combat duty [in Belarus]. It is quite possible that this is such a provocation disguised as stupidity to check how they could react.”

Mr. Mukovozchik urged not to panic, not to escalate tension, but to calmly live and work. He drew a parallel with how an incident with the fall of a Ukrainian rocket on the territory of Poland was covered by the media, and how Belarusians are reacting now, “Everything was prepared there. After the incident in Poland, 1.5 hours later, headlines began to appear in the Western media that the war had begun. They were breaking it all up to get to Biden, who was in Bali [at the G20 summit], so it was necessary to inflate the news until the wave reached there. Our reaction now is not simply balanced, but it is also very wise.”
