Lukashenko proposed building high-speed lines to connect Minsk with satellite cities

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has been reported today by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Aleksei Lyakhnovich. The working meeting at the Palace of Independence was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Sivak, Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Aleksandr Yegorov, and General Director of Belavtodor Holding Management Company Yuri Masyuk. The agenda included the development of the national highway network and the formation of transport infrastructure that would provide an hour-long travel to satellite cities.

At the beginning of the conversation, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted, “I would like to discuss a pressing issue with you today: the state of our highways. It is a matter of concern for our citizens as well. Another important issue is the resettlement of those wishing to live and work in the hero city of Minsk. I have said more than once that overpopulation of Minsk is not in favour of its residents and people who want to relocate to the capital. We see the negative consequences of such a trend through the example of our neighbours, of virtually every state.”

According to the President, this situation is especially typical for the capital of Russia, Moscow, where 15 million people live.
