Energy ministries of Belarus and Russia discuss common electricity market

On May 30th, a working meeting was held between Belarus’ Deputy Energy Minister Denis Moroz and Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Snikkars – as reported on the website of the Belarusian energy department

Issues of bilateral co-operation within the framework of the implementation of the Union State programme for the formation of a common electricity market, including an action plan for the creation of the market, were considered. Moreover, the two sides discussed the progress in agreeing on a protocol on introducing amendments and additions to the intergovernmental agreement on measures to ensure the parallel operation of the two countries’ energy systems.

As Denis Moroz noted, the process of creating a common electricity market of the Union State should be interconnected with the formation of a common gas market, “The principles of the functioning of the gas market will largely determine the conditions for the operation of the common electricity market, so we should consider these blocks of issues in parallel,” the Deputy Energy Minister underlined.

Denis Moroz and Pavel Snikkars visited the Belarusian nuclear power plant to get acquainted with the progress of its construction.
