Belteleradiocompany Chairman: Belarus’ media ready for upcoming election campaign
Belarus is approaching a new election campaign in a slightly different form compared to what it was a few years ago – as stated by the Chairman of the Belarusian TV and Radio Company, Ivan Eismont
“Our former partners are particularly interested in what is happening on the territory of Belarus. I think it’s no need for me to tell you what may happen,” Mr. Eismont said.
Four years ago, an unprecedented situation happened: that was an attack on the state media, and Mr. Eismont stressed that, since then, the state had brought order to the information field, “Openly speaking, we now have much fewer enemies who used foreign money in their work aimed at the collapse of the Belarusian state.”
Commenting on the issue of readiness for the upcoming campaign, the Belteleradiocompany Chairman stated, “We have taken up a challenge and have restructured our work. I think, everyone has felt it. We are approaching the election campaign in a slightly different form compared to what it was: we were too tolerant and calm then, and we recognised that, because we believed journalism should be such. Our opponents approached the elections from completely different positions, but we have worked over our gaps, and we are actually ready now.”
Mr. Eismont noted, “We are focused on the truth, on objective coverage of events, on what is happening in our country and abroad. It is for this reason that we, the media representatives, have been subjected to numerous sanctions from our western partners for several years already. For me, this is a proof that we are doing everything right.”
