Co-operation in economy, IT and tourism. What the presidents of Belarus and Abkhazia agree on

Contacts with Belarus are very important for Abkhazia – as the President of Abkhazia, Aslan Bzhaniya, told journalists, commenting on the results of his meeting with the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko

Aslan Bzhaniya recalled that an agreement on his visit to Belarus was reached during Aleksandr Lukashenko’s trip to Abkhazia in September 2022. Prior to that, Aslan Bzhaniya was in Belarus forty years ago, where, as a student, he took part in the construction of a runway at the airport in Minsk.

“It is immediately evident that Minsk and Belarus are a place surrounded by the care of the leadership. It can be seen that this is a great well-co-ordinated work,” the President of Abkhazia noted.

He added that Belarusians in his country are perceived as relatives and close people. Moreover, due to the ‘efforts of Western states’, the country was isolated for a long time, and today ‘de-isolation processes are underway’, “Contacts with Belarus are very important in this regard. We want to have a good relationship.”

Yesterday Aslan Bzhaniya visited the Hi-Tech Park, where he got acquainted with the IT developments of Belarusians.

“We agreed that young people from Abkhazia will come to the Belarusian Hi-Tech Park to improve their skills,” said Aslan Bzhaniya.

According to him, the meeting with the Belarusian leader focused on economic co-operation, “We agreed on a number of issues. An Abkhaz Trade House has been set up in Belarus, within the framework of which it is possible to supply Abkhaz products to the territory of Belarus and vice versa. We agreed that we would purchase not only Belarusian agricultural products, but also the produce of MTZ, Horizont. These contacts fully correspond to the wishes of the citizens of Abkhazia, and I hope the citizens of Belarus as well.”

Aslan Bzhaniya also underlined the tourism potential of Abkhazia, “We have a very comfortable climate, and Belarusians can have a very good time at our resorts. We will always welcome guests from Belarus. I signed a decree on extending the visa-free stay of Belarusian citizens in Abkhazia.”

Today and tomorrow Aslan Bzhaniya plans to visit a number of historical places in Belarus.

“I am sure that we will come home filled with positive emotions, and this will certainly result in an impulse of even greater sympathy for the Belarusian state and people,” Aslan Bzhaniya emphasised.
