US Coast Guard tracked Chinese naval ships in Bering Sea
On July 6th-7th, the US Coast Guard spotted four naval ships of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy in the Bering Sea, which were transiting in international waters but allegedly were in the US exclusive economic zone, TASS reports
A statement on the US department claims that the Coast Guard Cutter Kimball (WMSL 756) spotted three PLA Navy vessels ‘approximately 124 miles north of the Amchitka Pass in the Aleutian Islands, and the crew of the HC-130J aircraft… identified another vessel [PLA Navy] at about 84 miles north of the Amukta Pass’.
According to the Coast Guard, 4 ships were transiting in international waters but were allegedly located in the exclusive economic zone of the United States.
“The Chinese naval presence operated in accordance with international rules and norms. We met presence with presence to ensure there were no disruptions to US interests in the maritime environment around Alaska," Rear Admiral Megan Dean said.
