UN Chief declared threat of famine in various regions in 2022
In some regions, there is a real threat of famine this year, even despite the implementation of an agreement on the export of food and fertilisers from Russia and Ukraine – as noted by UN Secretary General António Guterres, TASS reports
According to the UN Secretary General, world hunger began to arise even before the spread of coronavirus infection.
“Despite the Black Sea Grain Initiative and the agreement on accessing Russian food and fertilisers to global markets, the risk of famine in various [areas] is real. World hunger began to emerge even before the pandemic,” António Guterres drew attention.
Moreover, he said that the increase in the cost of living hits the poorest segments of the population the hardest.
The UN is doing everything to ensure the export of Russian food and fertilisers, António Guterres concluded.
