Syria permitted UN to use border crossings to deliver humanitarian aid

UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the new Syrian authorities gave the UN permission to use the country’s border crossings for humanitarian aid deliveries, TASS reports

According to Mr. Dujarric, the UN will work with the new transitional government in Damascus to determine how to best support humanitarian aid deliveries. He also stated that the new authorities have already greenlit using as many border crossings as possible to facilitate that.

The issue of using Russian military bases for humanitarian purposes will be discussed between the Syrian authorities and the Russian Federation, the UN representative added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced earlier that Moscow had offered to use its bases in Khmeimim and Tartus to deliver humanitarian aid to Syria.
