Standardisation expert: artificial intelligence institute needed to ensure safe AI use
Belarus’ State Committee for Standardisation announced creation of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence. Director of the Belarusian State Institute for Standardisation and Certification Aleksandr Skuratov talked about the details today, November 22nd, at the parliamentary hearing in the Oval Hall of the Government House.
“We counted, and the expression ‘artificial intelligence’ comes up over 150 times in Belarus’ National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS). Our plans include introducing artificial intelligence in all areas, not only in industry. So the Standardisation Committee can’t just stand aside and not regulate it somehow. That’s why we made a decision to set up this institute. I’m talking about an institute that would handle technical regulations pertaining to artificial intelligence and create a safe and decent environment for its introduction,” Mr. Skuratov said.
He added that artificial intelligence is, above all, a technology. “And a technology asks for technical norms and standards, regulations, specifications. We’re working hard on that and plan to keep going in 2025,” concluded the official.
