Russian FM spokesperson: if US places missiles in Japan, Russia will take necessary, adequate steps
Russia will take adequate measures in accordance with its updated nuclear doctrine if the US deploys its missiles in Japan – as noted by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, TASS reports
“As for Japan, we actually see that official Tokyo is deliberately escalating the situation around Taiwan, including in the information field, thus trying to justify its course towards the forced militarisation of the country and increasing military-technical co-operation with Washington. We have repeatedly warned the Japanese side that if, as a result of such interaction, American medium-range missiles are deployed on its territory, this will pose a real threat to the security of our country and we would be forced to take necessary, adequate steps to strengthen our own defence capability. Tokyo can get a clear idea of what kind of plan these actions will be by familiarising itself with the updated provisions of the Foundations of the State Policy of the Russian Federation in the Area of Nuclear Deterrence,” the Russian diplomat told a briefing,
According to Ms. Zakharova, it is obvious that the provocative actions directed by the US, which are taken under the slogan of ‘preserving the status quo’, violation of its own commitments to Beijing on the Taiwan issue are ‘an unconcealed form of pressure on China and lead to the undermining of regional stability and security in the Asia-Pacific region’.
