Joint meeting of foreign and defence ministers, secretaries of CSTO security councils held in Astana
A joint meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defence Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Councils of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation has taken place in Astana today under the chairmanship of the Kazakh side, with CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov and Chief of CSTO Joint Staff Colonel-General Andrei Serdyukov in attendance, sb.by reports with reference to the CSTO press service
The meeting participants exchanged views on the military-political situation in the regions of collective security, discussed the results of co-operation and prospects for further development of the collective security system. Special attention was paid to the preparation for the joint celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
A number of documents submitted to the CSTO Collective Security Council were approved, and decisions aimed at further strengthening of the allied ties, increase of the foreign policy co-ordination, development of the CSTO collective forces, their equipment with modern and promising models of weapons, military and special equipment were made.
According to the press secretary of the CSTO Joint Staff, Vladislav Shchegrikovich, quoted by BelTA, the approaches to ensuring unhindered (non-stop) transit of contingents and military aviation flights were updated at the meeting, in accordance with the priorities of Kazakhstan's chairmanship.
"Amendments were made to the agreement on the status of formations of forces and means of the CSTO collective security system and to the agreement on co-operation between the CSTO member states in transportation of military and other formations, their movable property, as well as military products. Special attention was paid to the further development of the forces and means of the collective security system. The fundamentals of the preparation and use of the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Forces were approved. A number of other agreements aimed at strengthening the collective security of the CSTO member states were also reached following the results of the meeting," Mr. Shchegrikovich informed.
