Over 50% of French want government to resign, the poll shows
More than 53 percent of French people want the government of the country’s Prime Minister Michel Barnier to resign over dissatisfaction with the proposed budget proposed, according to an Ifop-Fiducial poll published today, Reuters reports
According to the poll, 67 percent of those surveyed opposed Barnier’s budget, which aims to reduce France’s growing public budget deficit by raising taxes and cutting spending by 60bn Euros ($63bn), while 33 percent supported it.
“Barnier’s government could fall before Christmas, and perhaps even by next week, if far-right and leftist foes force a no-confidence motion that he is likely to lose, according to a dozen sources from across the political spectrum,” the publication reads.
Ifop-Fiducial’s findings are based on a survey of 1,006 people conducted on November 26th-27th.
