Russia, S. Korea to build two nuclear power plants in Uganda to export electricity to neighbouring states

Russia and the Republic of Korea will build two nuclear power plants in Uganda with a total capacity of 15.6 thousand MW to establish exports of electricity to neighbouring countries – as informed by Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, TASS reports

“We have agreed with Russia and South Korea on the construction of two nuclear power plants to generate electricity,” the Ugandan leader said.

The exact dates of the start of construction are not reported, and the amount of funding is unknown.

Earlier, Western companies approached the President of Uganda with a proposal for the extraction and exports of uranium, but Mr. Museveni refused as he considered the terms unprofitable.
