Ukrainian with Belarusian citizenship: my family benefited from moving to Belarus
The residents of Ukraine who fled the war and arrived to Belarus have found a peaceful life in the republic – as noted by Galina Romashchenko, the Associate Professor of the Department of Functional Analysis and Analytical Economics at the Belarusian State University’s Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, following today’s meeting with Belarus’ President Aleksandr Lukashenko which gathered representatives of different nationalities who live in Belarus
In 2014, the woman and her family moved to Belarus from Donetsk. A year ago, the Romashchenko family were granted Belarusian citizenship.
“My family have benefited from moving to Belarus, my children have got here much more than if they had stayed in Ukraine. My husband and I have regained our positions, I work at the best university in Belarus, it's great! I have the opportunity to develop professionally, as I wanted to. We have not lost anything,” the woman said.
Mrs. Romashchenko is sad of what is happening in her native country, where her loved ones stay. In Belarus, everything is different. “However, every time I look at what is happening in Belarus, how life is arranged here, how the authorities interact with people, and tell them [in Ukraine] about this, they do not believe that it is possible to live like normal people and make it convenient for everyone. I am very grateful that the country's leadership managed to build a system where a person can live normally and peacefully,” she said.
The Ukrainian did not hide her ardent desire for peace to finally return to her native country. She believes all wars always end.
