President of Iran: number of foreign tourists up 50% in year

At the opening ceremony of the 17th International Tourism Industry Exhibition, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, stated that the number of foreign tourists who visited his country from March 2023 to February 2024 (year 1402 according to the Persian solar calendar that started on March 21st, 2023) increased by 50 percent compared to the previous year’s figures, TASS reports

The ISNA news agency quoted the Iranian leader as saying, “We see that the number of tourists visiting our country has increased by 50 percent this year, and Iran has occupied the niche that emerged after the end of the pandemic [in the tourism sector] and created the necessary conditions for tourists.”

Ebrahim Raisi added that the Islamic Republic of Iran ‘boasts a great cultural heritage and beautiful nature’, which gives great potential for the industry development.

On February 4th, Iran unilaterally abolished the visa regime with 28 countries, including Belarus, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Uzbekistan, and Japan.
