Opinion: the longer Ukraine makes noise, the more the West will inject into it

The former US Army Europe Commander, Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, has recently said that the main goal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is to ensure isolation of the Crimean Peninsula. According to him, Ukraine will win by the end of 2023 and will regain Crimea. In his talk with the ONT TV channel, a member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, the Director of the Grodno Regional Drama Theatre, Igor Gedich, explained why Ben Hodges' statement should not be viewed seriously.

According to Mr. Gedich, the former US Army Europe Commander is deeply mistaken, and his statements can be considered false. “In my opinion, these words are pure hype. For example, the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mark Milley, said there is little probability that Ukraine will achieve victory. Therefore, I think there is a struggle of narratives now that Ukraine will regain Crimea. Actually, there are no facts in world history when a nuclear power lost in military battles. We can observe how foreign media already wonders what will happen if Russia wins, and when it wins,” he explained.

Mr. Gedich added that the information concerning Ukraine can be considered a mere noise, which is necessary to switch attention from one event to another.

“Perhaps this information noise is needed to shift attention from the upcoming elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, as well as from the presidential elections. A certain bargaining is already observed: the longer Ukraine makes noise and does not fight, the more financial injections will flow into the country from the West. However, when their counteroffensive fails, funding may stop. After all, the top officials said that Ukraine is not an existing country in monetary terms: there will be no Ukraine if finances are not poured into it. We are well aware that Russia is fighting not against this country, but against the collective West,” Mr. Gedich said.
