Mezentsev: Union State Treaty potential should be used consistently to benefit Belarusian, Russian citizens

The Union State Standing Committee has hosted a meeting of the joint interdepartmental working group to consider ensuring equal rights for the citizens of Belarus and Russia, attended by representatives of the two countries’ relevant ministries, as well as the Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia

The meeting discussed the issues of ensuring the rights of citizens of Russia and Belarus to receive medical care, necessary permits for temporary residence, as well as rights to receive allowances related to birth and children.

As noted by the State Secretary of the Union State, it is important to identify concrete solutions to harmonise legislation and ensure equal rights for millions of citizens of the two countries united by the Union State Treaty.

“The potential of the Union State Treaty should be used consistently and on a much larger scale to benefit the citizens of our countries,” Dmitry Mezentsev stressed. “If we all talk together about creating an atmosphere of interaction of a different level, depth and scale, many issues will be settled much faster and more successfully, if not automatically. Today is the stage of integration, which has been determined by the presidents of our countries – Vladimir Putin and Aleksandr Lukashenko – who signed a package of 28 Union State agreements on November 4th, 2021.”
