Mawar typhoon approaching US Guam Island
The most powerful typhoon in the last two decades – Mawar – is approaching the shores of Guam Island in the western Pacific Ocean, where 170 thousand people live, RIA Novosti reports with reference to The New York Post
It is informed that residents of the island were ordered to evacuate from low-lying areas. People were advised to seek shelter in preparation for a possible direct hit in what would likely be the strongest storm to impact the area in more than twenty years.
“The event could be the first landfall of a significant typhoon since 2022’s Super Typhoon Pongsona,” the source reported.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden declared a state of emergency in Guam and ordered federal assistance to local authorities in responding to the typhoon.
