Lukashenko: Vitebsk State University has special place in our historical memory

The Vitebsk State University named after P. M. Masherov has a special place in lour historical memory – as noted by Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko during today’s Open Microphone with the President event, featuring students of the Vitebsk Region universities

Earlier, the Head of State announced a visit to a range of Belarusian universities in the country’s regions. Speaking about why he chose the Vitebsk State University for his first visit, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted, “It’s turned out that the President had never visited you before. On the other hand, I’m pleased that our meeting is taking place right now: in the year of the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders. Your university has a special place in our historical memory. Three of your graduates have been awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union: Konstantin Abazovsky, Mikhail Vysogorets and Piotr Masherov, whose name your university bears. I’m happy that you honour the memory of your predecessors, preserving the continuity of generations and traditions.”

The President wished that the Vitebsk State University would continue to maintain the level of the best universities in the country and neighbouring countries, “You have a serious potential, and I think you can add significantly both in academic activities and educational work.
