Lukashenko: twin cities greatly contribute to building up strategic partnership within Union State

The meetings of twin cities make a significant contribution to building up strategic partnerships within the framework of the Union State, intensifying business and human contacts – as stated in the greeting of the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, to the participants of the 11th meeting of twin cities of Belarus and Russia in Pskov. The greeting was voiced by Ivan Markevich, the Deputy Chairman of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee, Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian public organisation Twin Cities, BelTA reports.

“It is largely thanks to the substantive participation of twin cities that joint projects are being implemented, new current priorities are being determined, and programmes are being developed which are aimed at expanding economic ties, further integration and improving the well-being of the population,” the greeting says.

“Today’s meeting is taking place against the backdrop of an extremely tense international situation, growing instability in the world and separate regions. In this situation, it is more important than ever to maintain and strengthen the bonds of friendship, develop interaction across all areas, and jointly ensure security on our land,” the document reads.

The President of Belarus wished the participants of the event successful work, good luck in all their endeavours and undertakings, as well as new achievements for the sake of the prosperity of the Belarusian and Russian peoples.

Representatives of about sixty cities of Belarus and Russia gathered for the meeting in Pskov. The plenary session and work in sections will be focused on strengthening bilateral liaisons, including in the field of economy, social sphere, culture and education.
