Lukashenko suggests using outreach campaigns to combat fakes and disinformation
At today’s meeting with members of the Republican Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions, the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, suggested fighting fakes and disinformation with outreach campaigns and active social work, BelTA reports
“The Internet [the challenges it generates] is just the tip of the iceberg. The question is how we are going to combat AI in future?” the Belarusian leader asked.
Irina Kiturko, the Rector of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, spoke at the meeting on the role of higher education in the upbringing of individuals and citizens. She also highlighted the importance of dialogue platforms and direct work with youngsters.
“You were right in mentioning dialogue platforms and outreach campaigns. It’s necessary to reach out to people. We have a governed country, and we can reach everyone. We should come and refute what they see [in their smartphones],” the Head of State noted. “The fight is now moving into this field. Politics and finance are also there. Everything will be there, including the elections. Therefore, we need to prepare to work here.”
“We need to immerse young people in live work. If we take and lead them, they will believe us. We cannot get rid of this [modern technologies and the Internet]. Moreover, the Internet is of great importance, having its own benefits. But we must be able to work, first of all, with youngsters: those who are inexperienced and unprepared. We won’t get away from this,” the President summed up.
