Lukashenko: Russia is our ally. I supported Russia and will keep doing so

Russia is an ally of Belarus, and the relationship between Moscow and Minsk is tighter than that between London and Washington. Ukraine, meanwhile, behaved like an enemy and a thug, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko told Steve Rosenberg, Russia Editor for BBC News, in his interview on the side-lines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan.
To the question about his reaction to the presence of Russian troops in Belarus, the Head of State responded, “I took that in stride, you’ve seen that. You know what my reaction was. I didn’t call Putin, and he didn’t call me either. Those are his troops; he can order them to go wherever he pleases, even from my territory. That was and is my opinion. What’s more, I want you to understand that Russia is our ally. Our relationship is tighter than that between the Americans and the British.”

At the same time, according to the President, Ukraine treated Belarus like an enemy.

“They imposed sanctions on us even before the Anglo-Saxons did. They seized our railway cars full of fertilisers. Grabbed 75 trucks, along with the people in them. They acted like thugs. You’re well aware of that: our special forces had to do a raid to get our guys back. We got them back, but five of them they’d killed and cut up their bodies to prevent us from figuring out what happened to them. How would you call that? You mean, I should have walked hand in hand with Zelensky all that time?” he retorted.
