Lukashenko revealed details of sudden inspection of non-strategic nuclear weapons
The current situation is being heated up by the expansion of military blocs and alliances to the detriment of other countries’ security – as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko during today’s solemn meeting on the occasion of Victory Day in the Palace of the Republic
“The expansion of military blocs and alliances to the detriment of other countries’ security is heating up the current situation, alongside the unprecedented build-up of NATO potential in our region. All this is already at the western and southern borders of our Belarus,” the Head of State noted.
At the same time, the President pointed out that some politicians are talking about war and nuclear strikes. Therefore, against the background of the constantly increasing military activity in Europe, Belarus is taking a set of measures to adequately respond to the aggravation of the situation.
The Head of State noted that a lot has been said about this recently, “This activity on the defence and security of our country is planned and involves several stages.”
The Commander-in-Chief clearly outlined these stages, “As part of the first stage, in response to the concentration of troops near Belarus’ north-western borders (this is already almost 90 thousand people; military people and those who served in the army know well what a concentration of such troops means – this has never happened), we used reinforced tank and mechanised battalions to cover our state border. You might have seen in the Oshmyany and Postavy directions. As I said, we are already standing head-on with NATO. Preventing the penetration of sabotage and reconnaissance groups, illegal armed formations into our territory has been worked out, as well as maintaining order in the border territories in general.”
According to the Commander-in-Chief, a sudden inspection was conducted against this background with the mobilisation and bringing into full combat readiness of the corresponding mechanised and anti-aircraft missile brigades. Finally, a large–scale inspection of the air force and air defence was carried out.
“These inspections have shown the effectiveness of the existing combat and mobilisation readiness system, the ability of brigades to move to the highest degree of combat readiness in a timely manner and complete tasks according to their intended purpose,” the President asserted.
Aleksandr Lukashenko did not hide the fact that the rotation of the cover troops in the north-western direction is currently underway, “Military units of a separate mechanised brigade occupy new areas of operational purpose. They are being replaced by a reinforced battalion tactical group from another separate mechanised brigade.”
The Head of State said that the second stage of response measures is currently being worked out.
“To implement it, the general staffs of the Armed Forces of Belarus and Russia have envisaged an inspection of forces and means of a joint regional group of troops, within which it is planned for the first time to work out the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons,” the Belarusian leader underlined.
According to the President, during the inspection, special munitions will be supplied to missile and aviation military units, loaded onto launchers and installed on airplanes. Missile divisions of the Iskander operational and tactical complexes and domestically-produced Polonez multiple launch rocket systems will be secretly brought to designated positions to work out the issues of launching missile strikes to repel a possible attack on Belarus. At the same time, aviation military units will prepare Su-25 combat jets for actions with special munitions to support the defending troops and inflict unacceptable damage to the enemy.
“The events will be held against a common operational and strategic background, including the practicing of the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons by Russian troops. The media has already reported this,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
The Head of State informed that the troops of the Moscow and Leningrad military districts, as well as the forces and means of the Baltic fleet stationed in the Kaliningrad Region, would be involved in obtaining operational information.
“Tomorrow we’ll discuss with Russian President joint co-ordination, testing and use of our troops with those of Russia, the use of special munitions and make final decisions. The general staffs of Belarus and Russia will directly manage and govern the troops to send signals for the training use of non-strategic nuclear weapons in line with existing co-operation plans,” the President added.
The Belarusian leader especially underlined that the inspection is exclusively of defensive character, “It is aimed to ensure the readiness of Belarusian military units to work with special munitions, as well as to adjust the mechanisms of troop command and the interaction of the Union State government bodies.”
Upon the completion of the joint training, the troops will continue measures to adequately respond to changes in the situation.
