Lukashenko: construction of concrete roads should be highlighted in programme

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has instructed ‘to spell out in red letters’ the construction of roads with cement concrete pavement in a new road development programme. The Head of State voiced the relevant instruction during today’s meeting on the development of the national highway network and the formation of transport infrastructure that would provide an hour-long travel to satellite cities

According to the Minister of Transport and Communications, Aleksei Lyakhnovich, more than 1,700km of 16 thousand kilometres of republican highways will be repaired this year, and the amount of funding for these purposes has doubled compared to 2023. With this in view, the President recalled the previously given instruction to construct cement-concrete road, “Concrete speaks for itself. I drive along the Logoisk highway [near Minsk] every day. It does have cracks, but it has been in operation for more than 50 years. We have repaired the surface, and it is fine now. We agreed that 10-15 percent of all cement [produced in Belarus] will be used in road construction. We have everything for that. Therefore, the construction of concrete roads should be spelled out in red letters in this programme.”

As an example of the construction of a concrete highway, Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned the second ring road around Minsk. The President recalled that not everyone had initially supported that idea, “It would be hard for us without the second ring road at present, since it services a large share of traffic. I look at its quality and see that it is not being seriously lost. It means we know how to make concrete roads, we have the necessary equipment and different methods. This should be used.”
