Lukashenko: BRICS needs to be more active preventing West from winning and laughing at us

BRICS needs to move and act faster, otherwise the West will win – as stated by Belarus’ President Aleksandr Lukashenko in an interview with Izvestia on the side-lines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, BelTA reports

The Head of State noted that the process of the formation of a multipolar world is already an objective thing that does not depend on anyone’s desire. In this situation, many countries are thinking about where to ‘lean to’, with whom to be in an alliance and liaise, whether regional or global associations.

In the case of BRICS, Aleksandr Lukashenko believes it is important that the club does not slow down in solving key issues. If this happens, the initiative to advance the process should be taken by the founding member states. “It is necessary that the heads of the founding states – there are five of them – take up the solution of the issue, set up an appropriate group, and identify the main issues, such as a payment system, trading through cryptocurrencies, national currencies, etc. Logistics is also very important for trade and other issues. They have to identify the issue and suggest solutions by involving us, someone else, and so on, whom they deem necessary,” the Belarusian leader proposed a scheme of action.

“But if we announced the creation [in this case, a new alternative payment system], we should develop this idea. When many states begin to look for who to liaise with and how to live on, BRICS can make its own significant contribution. But we have to act; we can’t stop. I often say that if we stop, we’ll be trampled by those who follow us closely. The danger here is that if we do not realise the plans, do not meet the expectations of other states, then the collective West will win and will just laugh at us. Afterwards it will be very difficult to declare about the global organisation in the world,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.

As for Belarus, the President stressed that BRICS is a desirable organisation for the country. “We will work with them, we will contribute to solving the common issues that we face,” he said. “The BRICS countries – Russia, China, the UAE and many others – are very close to us. I wish we had such a level of relations with India. We are building it. These are our people, and we must liaise with them.”

At the same time, the Head of State believes that BRICS needs to put forward and discuss more issues common to all, and this is already happening. For example, the summit focused on the conflict in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. But still, many private problems and questions are still heard in the speeches of the leaders,” the Belarusian leader stated.
