The President noted that the CIS was created by politicians who know the value of unity of nations, “However, in the foreseeable future, a generation – that understands the importance of national sovereignty and independence well – will enter politics. Whether these people will be able to preserve the experience we have gained in our Union State building depends on our work today, including with the youth. What should we pass on to them? This is, firstly, the unique Soviet experience of the movement of peoples towards a common goal without prejudice to national interests. This is a model of consolidation of diverse cultures, religions, and traditions in the name of a goal. Secondly, our children should know common historical achievements, such as the Great Victory, the labour feat of the post-war generation, the first flight into space, and many others. Every success is based on the joint contribution of our peoples. We definitely must pass on this history to those who will come after us.”

In this sense, as noted by Aleksandr Lukashenko, it is not enough to talk, write books or make films. “We need to maintain the level of simple human communication. The implementation of this task could be backed, for example, by the revival of international youth construction projects within the CIS. We have revived this tradition in Belarus: i.e. the construction of the Republican Patriotic Education Centre continues in the Brest Fortress with the participation of young people from the Commonwealth,” he said.

The President stressed that the CIS states were together when they celebrated the day of Great Victory 80 years ago, “Belarus supports declaring 2025 Year of 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War – Year of Peace and Unity in Fight against Nazism (the latter is once again becoming a threat to all mankind). The honorary title of the CIS — City of Labour Glory. 1941-1945 – will be established today. In our opinion, it is a historically fair decision: there would have been no Great Victory without the great sacrificial work of the Soviet people in the rear.”

The Belarusian leader is convinced that, as before, the heads of state will find optimal solutions to all issues on today's agenda that meet the interests of our countries.
