Lukashenko: USSR ceased to exist long ago, but West’s attempts to demonise Soviet past do not stop

The mechanism of interaction within the CIS is the most important tool for strengthening political and economic power of our states and the region as a whole – as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko during today’s meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council in Moscow

The Belarusian leader noted that we are talking about the CIS, but there are also other associations, “It turns out that there are quite a few of us. There are nine states that boast the greatest potential. These are countries rich in the resources that the planet really needs nowadays.”

The Head of State noted that our countries stand on the shoulders of several generations who managed to create a powerful state from scratch, which became one of the geopolitical centres of power.

“It was formed on the basis of common goals and respect for the traditions and cultures of our nations. That’s why it was strong. There are no analogues of the Soviet experience of nation-building in history. It is not surprising that the new union of our now sovereign states is undesirable in the current geopolitical realities. We have always known this, so we have done everything to preserve such a unique model. Just look: the USSR ceased to exist long ago, but the West’s attempts to demonise the Soviet past do not stop. They are continuing the fight against the ghost,” the Belarusian leader underlined.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, this speaks to the strength of the historical unity of our peoples, which still worries both Washington and Brussels.

“It means that we need to cherish what we have. All those who have not broken away from our Commonwealth are showing decent results today, have not lost control of their country, and remain full-fledged subjects of international relations. It would be very good if Georgia returned to our family, if Moldova resumed its full-scale participation, if the authorities of Ukraine – in whose restoration we will have to participate – came to their senses. I am absolutely sure that it will be so. It’s just a matter of time,” the Head of State emphasised.
