Lukashenko arrived in Grodno for Belarus Hockey Championship finals

The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, has arrived in Grodno for the Belarusian Extraleague (Belarus Hockey Championship) final of 2022/23 season, BelTA reports

The Grodno Neman hockey players and the current champions of Belarus, Zhlobin Metallurg, will struggle for the President's Cup.

The final match of the season is hosted by the Grodno Ice Sports Palace. In the final confrontation, the Neman hockey players won the first (2:0), third (5:0) and fifth (6:1) matches, while the Zhlobin team celebrated victories in the second (2:1), fourth (3:0) and sixth games of the series (7:1). A year ago, the President's Cup was also played for in the seventh match: Metallurg beat Yunost then with a score of 3:0.

Earlier, the teams from Grodno and Zhlobin met in the finals in 2012 and 2013, the first duel ended in favour of ‘the Wolves’, and a year later ‘the red-blacks’ took revenge. In case of victory, Neman will become the eight-time champion of Belarus, and Metallurg can become the owner of the Extraleague main trophy for the third time.
