The Head of State, in particular, noted that political opponents – and especially fugitives – assert that his participation in the Dazhynki events is allegedly due to the beginning of his election campaign. “Remember: most of all which would not like to happen is this campaign to begin. Definitely, we will elect our President – doing this correctly and calmly as usual, and the entire world community will observe the process. You will elect the one who deserves this post from your point of view. Therefore, there is no talk about an election campaign. However, if they [fugitives] think that it’s an election campaign, then I have the right to do so,” the Belarusian leader noted.

People greeted those words with loud, friendly applause. However, as noted by Aleksandr Lukashenko, the main purpose of his visits to Dazhynki is different.

“Everything may happen in life. Maybe, as President, I will have no possibility to come to you again, to meet villagers with whom I once shared the same routine, to communicate with people who have never betrayed and who have done incredibly much for the country. Look back at the past: at the dawn of our youth, we had nothing to eat, but we had enough of coupons (though it was hardly possible to exchange them for anything in stores). By now, you have fulfilled my main demand: you have ensured the food security of our country. A few decades ago, could we have thought that we would be able to supply food to a hundred countries of the world? Actually, you have done this! Should I be grateful to you for that? Of course! This is the goal that I pursue when visiting each region: to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the feat that you have accomplished. You should know that we will do everything in the future to make villagers’ life better. I am aware of the situation with roads, accommodation and other aspects. Large programmes are already being practiced to settle these issues for our citizens who reside in rural areas, for our veterans and pensioners. We will make sure that no one is left out. That’s what I can say about this conspiracy theory. I have come to you – and I visit other regions – to bow low to you for the work, for the feat, for patriotism and dedication that you have demonstrated over these decades. Thank you very much!”
