Lukashenko announced his desire to develop car production in Belarus in co-operation with China FAW Group
Belarus is keen to develop its automotive industry with the participation of Chinese partners – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, at a meeting with the leadership of the China First Automobile Group Corporation FAW, BelTA reports
“You know that we are extremely interested in the development of the automotive industry in Belarus. Yesterday, during negotiations with my friend Xi Jinping, I asked him to support my initiative to liaise with your company. He told me that he supported this idea, stressing that this is a state company, and he supports contacts between Belarusian specialists and the company, and is ready to help as much as necessary for the development of relations,” the President of Belarus told the details of the negotiations.
“You are aware of our interest in you. You manufacture good cars. If you have the desire and aspiration to work in Belarus, I am at your service. I would like us to create a real car in Belarus together with you. If we want to get an effect and success, it must be done now, and very quickly, when the territories and markets for our future products have been vacated. I have one question: how do you look at this, taking into account Xi Jinping’s and my support?” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
Chairman of the Board of the FAW Group Import & Export Corporation, General Manager for International Relations of China First Automobile Corporation Yang Dayong thanked for the meeting and underlined the great attention to the development of co-operation. “We will be very carefully implementing this project, which was agreed between the heads of the countries,” he assured.
FAW Group is one of the oldest and largest car manufacturers in China. The most famous brands of the corporation are Hongqi (translated as ‘red flag’) and Jiefang, representing Chinese passenger cars and commercial trucks, respectively. The Hongqi L series limousine has been selected as the official vehicle for major celebrations and events in China. It was the passenger car of this brand that was provided by the Chinese side for use in the motorcade of the President of Belarus during a state visit to China.
