The heads of state reaffirmed the strategic nature of bilateral co-operation, reviewed implementation of the agreements reached during the two presidents’ talks in Baku in April, and discussed prospects for Belarusian companies’ participation in implementation of large-scale mutually beneficial projects in Azerbaijan.

Aleksandr Lukashenko appreciated the end of a longstanding confrontation between Azerbaijan and Armenia a year ago. He emphasised the importance of the peace process which is in place now and benefits both countries.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that restoration of transport communications and economic co-operation in the South Caucasus should become the basis for lasting peace in the region and ensure the well-being and security of all peoples who live there.

The President of Belarus also expressed condolences to families and friends of all victims of the longstanding Karabakh conflict and highlighted the exceptional importance of the statement – made a year ago through the mediation of Russia – which stopped the bloodshed.

In addition, Belarus’ Head of State informed his colleague that a monument to the native of Ganja, an outstanding poet and thinker – Nizami Ganjavi – will be unveiled in Minsk as a sign of friendship between the peoples of Belarus and Azerbaijan. This year, the poet’s 880th anniversary is widely celebrated in Azerbaijan and beyond.
