Azarenok: there are almost 200 states in the world, but not so many of them are independent
Minsk hosted the United Belarus forum several days ago, and its speakers focused on the importance of National Unity Day celebrated in the country on September 17th. On this day in 1939, the Red Army's liberation campaign in Western Belarus began. The lands were freed from the Polish occupation, and the people were reunited. As stated by STV TV presenter Grigory Azarenok, in our modern days, September 17th acts as a reminder of the self-sufficiency and strength of the Belarusian nation.
“We have no masters or lords to govern us any more. Belarusians manage their country independently now. There are almost 200 states in the world, but not so many of them are independent – and Belarus is among them! During his recent meeting with university students of the Vitebsk Region, the President addressed all Belarusians. He called the people great, and these words impose great responsibility,” Mr. Azarenok stated. “To be great means to be able to choose one’s own government independently. The authorities of some states follow the instructions of the United States, and Americans demand to appoint certain managers who are more ‘convenient’ for them. For example, Ukrainians are fighting against Russians for other people's interests. Has anyone asked the residents of Ukraine whether they want to participate in a military conflict? Have Poles been asked of whether they need militarisation?”
As noted by Mr. Azarenok, Belarusians are following their own path, “We will not allow anyone to dictate conditions upon us. Belarus is choosing its own destiny. After 2020, a holiday was established: National Unity Day. It is celebrated on September 17th and reminds of the inviolability and self-sufficiency of the Belarusian people.”
