Lithuania seeks permanent US military presence on its territory
The Lithuanian authorities appealed to the United States with a statement about the need to deploy the US military on the territory of the Baltic State on a permanent basis – as reported by TASS
The resolution adopted by the Lithuanian Seimas speaks of the need for the presence of the US military in the country to contain Russia.
“This is the strongest factor in deterring Russia and a guarantee of security not only for the Baltic region, but for the entire Euro-Atlantic space,” the document says.
NATO fighter jets are currently stationed at the Lithuanian Air Base Zokniai, replacing each other every three to four months. They are on duty in the skies of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
Earlier it became known that Lithuania allocated €10m for the restoration of Ukraine after a special military operation. As stated by Lithuanian PM Ingrida Šimonytė, the Lithuanian authorities have allocated more than half a billion Euros in total to help the Ukrainian side.
