Lavrov: Russian and Belarusian nations will defend their interests in case of West’s suicidal logic

During an annual meeting with media representatives, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed confidence that, if necessary, the peoples of Russia and Belarus will be able to defend their interests

Answering the question whether it is possible to improve relations with the West through diplomatic methods, Sergei Lavrov assured that the Union State has the ability to defend its interests.

“God forbid, of course, but if suicidal logic prevails in the West, I assure you that the Russian and Belarusian peoples will defend their independence and their interests shoulder to shoulder. There is no doubt about this; we have all the necessary means for this,” said the Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

As far as diplomacy is concerned, Lavrov said that he does not see any place for it in the settlement of relations with the collective West. He cited an example of the position of a large European country, which states that it won’t improve its relations with Russia, but offers to liaise in Africa, since Europe’s positions there are weakening while those of Russia are strengthening.”

“I’m not joking; the cynicism is definitely running high. You remain our enemy, we will discredit you in the public space using all possible methods, but in Africa you will somehow help us strengthen our positions. There will never be such negotiations,” said Sergei Lavrov.
