Head of German party CDU predicts collapse of German economy in early 2023
The refusal of nuclear energy in the current situation is fraught with interruptions in the power supply of German households and enterprises – as noted by the leader of the CDU Party, Friedrich Merz, RIA Novosti reports
The politician believes that if next winter every fifth consumer of blue fuel in Germany will heat the house with electricity, then the demand for electricity will double. In this regard, he did not rule out a possible overload of the energy system.
“If the government continues in the same course, sticking to the rejection of nuclear energy for ideological reasons, we are threatened with a blackout at the beginning of next year,” Friedrich Merz noted.
Moreover, the politician called on the German authorities to order new fuel elements to continue the operation of at least three nuclear power plants in the country, which are currently not functioning.
“We had to order new fuel elements no later than August for at least three nuclear power plants that are still operating, and possibly even for three that were closed last year,” Friedrich Merz said.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Germany could start burning more garbage amid the energy crisis. According to him, such a measure will help strengthen the country’s electricity supply but will make the air more polluted.
