Opinion: Belarus always complies with various international agreements
Belarus always complies with various international agreements, including the Paris Climate Agreement, committing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions – carbon dioxide – by 28 percent by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. This is our country’s concrete contribution to the climate agenda, as political scientist Piotr Petrovsky told the sb.by portal.
As it was said, the West does not care about specific contributions. It seems that green politics is nothing more than a method of a new colonial system for Western countries. They want a monopoly on green technologies, setting green standards and providing these technologies to other countries. This means that for political reasons they want to determine whether the state meets their environmental requirements or not. It is clear that the criteria for determining environmental friendliness by Western states will be identified by completely different standards than the green economy. We have been seeing this for many decades regarding issues of democracy and human rights.
Belarus, for its part, has built the Belarusian nuclear power plant, is introducing environmental technologies for a green economy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and decreasing the use of non-renewable energy sources. It is clear that for such green politicians as Annalena Bärbock (Germany), this is still not an indicator. For them, the indicator is the confrontation with Russia and China. That’s their whole green economy.
