Doctor talks about harm caused by obesity

Obesity is a complex chronic disorder where the excess fat accumulated in the body can cause health issues. A person who does nothing to lose extra weight risks harming their entire body. Olga Lisenkova, a doctor from Russia, explained the worst health effects obesity contributes to.

Cardiovascular issues. According to Ms. Lisenkova, risks of hypertension, heart attack, stroke, and atherosclerosis are higher for obese people. Excess weight overloads blood vessels and the heart, making them pump more blood than they are comfortable doing.

B type diabetes. As the doctor explained, insulin resistance and carbohydrate metabolism disorders are closely linked to obesity. They cause B type diabetes that, in turn, increases the risk of complications.

Cancer. Excess weight is a risk factor for multiple types of cancer, added Ms. Lisenkova. They include breast, colon, liver, kidney, and other cancers. Fatty tissues produce inflammation agents that can cause malignancies.

Locomotion system issues. Excess weight overloads joints, especially in the knees and hips. As the expert explained, that can lead to ostheoarthrosis, joint deformities, and severe pain.

Respiratory disorders. The doctor pointed out that obesity causes obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS): temporary stoppages of breath while asleep. That, in turn, drives up the risk of heart attack and stroke.
