Speaking at the panel session – Sports Integration in the CIS, BRICS, SCO and EAEU: New Opportunities, Mr. Kovalchuk said that Sebastian Co, a candidate for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) presidency, cares only about his career.

“He only cares about his career and uses the situation with Russian and Belarusian athletes for personal purposes. If he heads the international Olympic movement – which is already at its last gasp – we urge the World Athletics members to consider impeachment, since Coe’s policy is aimed at the collapse of the Olympic movement. Unless it is too late,” the Sports and Tourism Minister said.

The new IOC president will be elected in March 2025 in Greece. Alongside Sebastian Coe, six other people are applying for this post. The current IOC Chief, Thomas Bach of Germany, won’t seek another term.
