The Head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry expressed confidence that the meeting ‘will be held on a good integration note, in the spirit of friendship, comradeship, and alliance, which is typical for Belarus and Russia’.

The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, met with Sergei Lavrov on the morning of January 19th, and the Russian diplomat noted that the meeting ‘was very, very useful’.

“As always, we exchanged an analysis of the processes that are developing in the Union State in terms of providing diplomatic support, and the processes unfolding around us, primarily, in Europe, where the Western neighbours have openly proclaimed the goal of holding back our development, the development of the Union State. [They] are trying in every possible way to stimulate the non-systemic opposition, which works abroad against the interests of Belarus and Russia,” Sergei Lavrov added.

The Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed, “Our line here is absolutely clear. Today we will consider it in detail in terms of further steps at the joint meeting of the foreign ministries of Belarus and Russia.”

During the meeting, the parties will discuss the interaction of diplomatic departments in implementing the provisions of the co-ordinated action programme in the field of foreign policy for 2022-2023, co-operation in foreign policy planning, co-ordination of actions in relation to the EU, NATO and the Council of Europe, as well as joint work within the OSCE.
