Zhang Ming: SCO working closely with Iran and Belarus to advance the process of countries’ accession to the organisation
The procedure for the entry of Iran and Belarus into the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO) is progressing successfully – as noted by SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming during his visit to China-Belarus Great Stone Industrial Park
The Secretary General said that before his arrival in Belarus he visited Iran, which is also in the process of joining the SCO, “Both countries have been functioning as observers in our organisation for many years. Over this time, they have been actively participating in the SCO activities. Now they have submitted applications to become SCO full members. All these applications received active responses from the SCO heads of state. In 2022, in Dushanbe, Iran began the accession process, in 2022 in Samarkand the same process was launched for Belarus.”
For now, both countries and all member states and the SCO Secretariat are doing their best and working closely to advance this process, Zhang Ming underlined, “This applies to legal procedures both within the organisation and in the states themselves. Everything is progressing successfully.”
