Lukashenko’s Press Secretary: President chops wood to relax
President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko chooses wood-chopping as his way to relax. His Press Secretary Natalya Eismont revealed that ‘they always have axes and logs ready’ for him in Russia, BelTA reports.
“The President chose his traditional way to relax again today,” she said answering a question from the TASS news agency on the side-lines of the EAEU summit.
Ms. Eismont went on to explain that for the Belarusian leader, chopping wood is, on the one hand, a way to take his mind off other things and get some fresh air, and, on the other hand, a habit that keeps him on his toes.
“For the President, it’s a lifestyle and a way to keep to the tradition,” she went on. “Where possible, of course. It’s not always possible. We are guests here [in Russia], but they welcome us as if we were at home: they always have axes and logs ready. So, if there’s an opportunity, why not.”
According to Ms. Eismont, President Lukashenko chops wood ahead of important talks at home, too. “It has been told and shown repeatedly, the President chops wood nearly every day, multiple times a day. In Minsk, as well,” she revealed.
The Press Secretary of the Head of State added that the President also loves sports like ice hockey and skiing, “We weren’t sure it’s going to be like that here, because we’re at a year-round resort, after all. Everyone has skiing gear and skis with them. But the weather is the weather, it’s unpredictable.”
