Ukraine complains about malfunctions of some Western air defence complexes
Some samples of Western air defence systems in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine have failed due to problems with their repair – as stated by Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence Mariana Bezuhla, TASS reports
“The repair-related situation is awful, some samples of Western equipment [air defence] are already all faulty,” Ms. Bezuhla posted on her Telegram channel.
The parliamentarian clarified: in order to repair a faulty machine, parts are removed from the similar serviceable equipment in Ukraine. Due to this approach, the military has fewer serviceable samples, and the coverage of the air defence system suffers. After such repairs, the equipment stops working in a couple of months.
“We should also not forget about corruption risks. The dynamics is progressing, and we may lose the absolute majority of air defence systems in terms of technical condition by the end of the year, since so far repair and maintenance work has not been critically systematised both inside [the country] and with partners," the official added.
Ms. Bezuhla also complained about small stocks of missiles for these complexes due to small supplies from Ukraine's partners. According to her, military personnel from mobile air defence fire groups who know the area around critical infrastructure facilities are sent to the frontline, and the played-out units withdrawn for rotation are sent instead.
