UK plans to modernise its national health service
The UK has unveiled plans to reorganise the National Health Service (NHS) to improve value for money and productivity, with $29bn of new cash to be used to reduce waiting lists for care, Reuters reports
The government announced a major increase in spending on the public health service in late October as part of a budget that envisages a sharp rise in taxes, spending and borrowing to improve a range of public services: from healthcare to education and transport.
“Seeking to reassure markets that the spending splurge was a one-off, the government also promised reforms to make those public services more efficient,” the publication reads.
Health Minister Wes Streeting, who had previously said the NHS is ‘broken’, announced a package of measures designed to turn the tide on the health system in England.
